Nasi Lemak Oh Nasi Lemak

Nothing beats the tasty aromatic banana leaf nasi lemak

Pagi tadi I teringin nak makan nasi lemak. Lepas sampai ofis & on laptop, I pon terus venture kat belakang bangunan ING yg famous for gerai makanan tepi jalan. Kat situ ada bnyk penjual nasi lemak & sarapan pagi. So I pon konon nak beli nasi lemak yg sedap yg dijual oleh 2 brader & pelanggan mrk yg slalu beratur panjang. Alangkah frustnye bila tgk barisan manusia disitu mcm org nak byr saman jalan raya last minit. Kalau I beratur, most probably kene tunggu atleast 10 mins. So I pon try la beli nasi lemak kat gerai sebelah brader tu. I mintak rendang kerang & beli kuih muih skit, total was RM 5, RM 3 for nasi lemak. Mahal kan? I x biasa dgn gerai tu, tapi what the heck,,perut da lapar & kene rush blk opis. Bila dah sampai ofis, I buka je bungkusan nasi lemak,,I notice mcm ada yg missing dlm nasi lemak tu. I korek2, belek2,,rupanye2 xde telur rebus. Hmmmm..hampeh. Yup, nasi lemak is not nasi lemak without the basic lauk pauk. Telur rebus, ikan bilis, kacang, sambal and timun is WAJIB in an ordinary nasi lemak. If you want add-ons, sambal/rendang ayam, kerang, daging, telur goreng, sambal sotong and all sorts may be added at your own extra cost. I was a bit agitated on why nasi lemak are slowly become more expensive over the years. Bukan saje makin mahal, kadang2 x bagi telur rebus, ikan bilis sgt ciput, timun kecut & pahit & kacang pulak goreng smpi hangit. Then the sellers easily charged one packet at the price of RM 1.20 for the ordinary nasi lemak.

At my housing area, ada satu gerai nasi lemak yg mmg sedap because of the rice itself. But gerai ni lagi lah kedekut. If you ask for nasi lemak biasa, dia just bagi nasi+sambal+kacang dlm 5 biji & ikan bilis x smpi 5 ekor. Nak telur rebus? Bayar extra okay. Gerai tu ada ayam goreng berempah which is tasty to me. So, basically peniaga tu nak promote ayam goreng berempah dia. My hubby yg selalu belikan nasi kat situ. One day kalau I yg pegi beli, I nak bitau peniaga tu yg nasi lemak wajib ada yg 5 basic lauk tu. Telur rebus pon nak berkira kak oi??

So, with the cost of living is getting high every year, be prepared that one day nasi lemak biasa will cost RM2 with only rice & sambal. Nak lauk lain kene bayar lebih!

Drum Roll Please! Welcome to My New Blog

The ever nostalgic Peter and Jane series

Assalamualaikum & hello to all readers! This blog is actually a spin-off from my earlier blog created in 2005. The older blog revealed some personal stories about myself, short poems and a bit of self expressions. It was written in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (B.M). Actually I prefer to write in both languages. Even the title of my new blog is in B.M. So, in the next write-up, there will be some postings in 'bahasa rojak'.

My passion in writting actually started in primary school days. But before I started to write, I learned to read Peter and Jane series at the age of 4. For beginners, the series offer introductions to basic vocabulary and simple English and progresses to more complex words as you become advanced readers. I would highly recommend the Peter and Jane series to all parents out there, and with proper guidance, your kids will be able to read and write at a young age. But don't force or pressure them before they are ready to read and write. Just give them encouragement to read and write and let nature take its course.

My dad encouraged all his children to write English essays every weekend. He gave a title and asked me & my siblings to write in two pages minimum. The assignment had to be completed before Sunday night & he would check the essays. With a red pen in his hand, he would circled any grammatical errors and wrong spellings. He would correct the mistakes and explained one by one. The weekend assignments went on till I completed the SPM exam. The essay assignment had instilled confidence in myself to write and speak in English. I will always remember my dad's effort and sacrifice in helping his children to master the English language. I will do the same on my kids and emulate my dad's method of teaching.

In my new blog, I will write on any topics with no boundaries. Anything from parenting to how to rear chickens. I believe in democracy and freedom of speech, but I won't go overboard because I know my limits. Why should I put myself in hot water? Tepuk dada tanya selera.
